1199SEIU Funds is one of the leading healthcare companies in the United States.
Their members save lives and care for the sick, elderly and people with disabilities.

With their old office space growing weary, it was time for a new home.

Scope of Work

Under Piscatello Design Centre, I created a base-building signage program of 3,000+ signs to aid workers, visitors and tenants throughout their office space.

Given the enormous infrastructure of 1199, we were also tasked to supplement the Base Building Signage with Wayfinding Signage. Consulting with the client, I was able to coordinate all the 50+ wayfinding messages the client wanted to convey and create final artwork assets to hand off to the fabricator for production.

Working with the client’s numerous requests of additional signage details ( Wayfinding Signage, directories, large-scale graphics, etc.), I lead a team of three people to create locations plans to verify final placement of signage. Lastly, I supervised the installation of all base building signage, wayfinding signage, and environmental graphics items.

Faces of Unity Wall

The Faces of Unity Wall is dedicated to the faces of the Healthcare client workers.

This graphic utilizes a magnetic backing product called, “Invisilock.” The portrait artworks are printed on Invisilock, which is then adhered to millwork. Invisilock enables the graphic to be removed with ease, as the portraits will be rotated on a quarterly basis.

I edited all the Healthcare client worker portraits and executed the final panel artwork assets for final delivery to the fabricator. I advised the client to choose a matte finish for the portraits, so the panel artwork wouldn’t have too much glare from outside.

Once the panels were produced, I supervised the installation of the Faces of Unity Wall. Being onsite, decisions were made to trim the lower artwork panels at the kickplate to make the appearance of the graphic better.

Elevator Lobbies

The building is divided into two sections: North Wing and South Wing.

The Elevator directory shows which departments are located within each respective wing. The directory contains changeable
message acetate inserts, in case departments need to be re-arranged.

The Base Building Signage in the Elevator Lobby, within this scope, contains Elevator Jamb Identification, Elevator Cab Identification, Stair Identification Signage, and more. Base Building Signage is created in accordance with the latest ADA Code protocols in mind.

Under Piscatello Design Centre, I created detailed Shop Drawings for all ADA Code Signage to send to the fabricator to produce the signage. Upon receiving sign layouts from the fabricator, I reviewed and approved all sign layouts to commence production.

Lastly, I supervised the installation of all signage items. Installation days were divided into Day 1 & Day 2 Items.

Points of Decisions

Wayfinding Signage is carefully placed at points of decisions throughout the building. These aluminum signs relay directions to important departments on each floor.

Hierarchy of information is presented with the distinction between the black horizontal brush finish aluminum signage and horizontal brush finish aluminum signage.

The vinyl words on the walls reflect the “Value Words” that client live by. The PMS value words are specced the same color as the wall: Avery White Sparkle UC 900-160-S. This gives the value words design the subtle, sophisticated look the client intended.

I worked with the client to design various options of the value words pattern. Once a final option was chosen, final artwork was created and sent to the fabricator for production. I supervised a team of  four installers to carefully place the 4” Cap Height Vinyl words along the wall. In addition, I designed an installation guide to ensure that the onsite installation replicated the design intent, documenting the distance between the floor and baseline of value words.
